Let’s see a silver lining in this Covid Cloud

Today, according to Maria, immigrants and non-immigrants are same. We cannot all be with our loved ones. Travel, local and international, is restricted. Life is only connected through virtual means. We cannot be part of each other’s life physically. But let’s see a silver lining in this Covid Cloud. Let’s hope when we get out of this, we will be more open and understanding towards those who leave behind a life and carry the baggage of the past till the end of life.

The journey from epidemic to pandemic seemed more like a problem for certain people at first, but then it became bigger and bigger, as did the realisation that the effects and outcomes would become grand too.

Many problems related to physical and mental health are now constantly in discussion.

The issues that were, in the past, mainly known to immigrants, refuges and asylum seekers, are now the issues that most people in society are facing today.

The fear of being alone, being alone, wanting to do lots but unable to do anything or feeling forced to do things you don’t want to simply to survive.

Today everyone wants to meet their loved ones and be normal like many of the immigrants who always want to be with their loved ones but cannot.

Most of us are suffering from the fear of the unknown and uncertainty.

Maybe, after this Covid crisis, society will become more understanding and come to feel what immigrants have been feeling for ages – like when asylum-seekers seeks asylum and throw themselves into the ocean of rules from Home Office.

Today immigrants and non-immigrants are same. We cannot all be with our loved ones; travel, local or international are restricted. Life is only connected through virtual means. We cannot be part of each other’s life physically.

Covid-19 brought everyone the same financial instability just like what people who come into this country feel. It has brought the same restrictions we face, like when the police stop to ask if you are travelling for “essential need”.  It’s kind of the same when an asylum seeker needs to report every week or fortnight to the police.

We did not bring Covid-19 on us all, like some think. And many asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants do not choose to leave home, to be in new place, be with new people and struggle for a lifetime. LIFE choose it for them.

Let’s see a silver lining in this Covid cloud and let’s hope that when we will be out of this, we will be more open and understanding towards those who leave behind a life and carry the baggage of the past till the end of life.
